The British Sub-Aqua Club

The Biggest Dive Club in the World

The British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) was formed in 1953 and membership of the BSAC grew steadily as the sport of Sub-Aqua Diving gained popularity. Membership peaked in 1998 at just over 50,000 members. It currently (2007) stands at just over 36000 members. Membership of the BSAC can be achieved either directly via a 'BSAC Direct' membership or via a BSAC Branch. The vast majority of BSAC members are members of one of the 1400+ affiliated branches (or clubs) throughout the UK.

Respected the World Over

The BSAC is the governing body of the sport of Sub-Aqua Diving in the U.K. and is therefore very influential when national policies relating to Health & Safety, Marine Environment and Conservation and care and protection of shipwrecks and other underwater artefacts both old and new.

The BSAC and its diving qualifications are recognised, and widely respected, worldwide. As the developer of one of the earliest 'standardised' Diver Training Programmes the training, particularly for divers intending to dive in UK waters, is generally regarded as second-to-none. The Diver Training Programme is frequently reviewed and updated to take account of the changing techniques and equipment in diving. Training can be undertaken either in a BSAC branch or a commercial BSAC Centre.

A Club for Divers not for Profits

The BSAC is a non-profit making organisation, having no shareholders. Club member subscriptions, revenue from mailshop sales and other income streams, are all ploughed back into the club and primarily pay for its administrative and headquarters costs.

The BSAC Headquarters is located in Ellesmere Port and is staffed by a small team of dedicated people. The BSAC is run by a volunteer committee which is augmented by various working groups, and coaching teams.
